Leaving for Language School

Well, the day finally arrived. We left for language school on Tuesday, August 25th at 6:45 AM. Upon arrival at Atlanta Hartsfield Intl. Airport, we learned about a special summer embargo on overweight baggage. We knew there was an embargo on extra bags; so, we decided to pack three of our bags up to 70 lbs. Because of the embargo, we had to repack our suitcases in the airport lobby. We began to pull heavy things out of our suitcases. I lost 2 pair of shoes; Rodney lost 2 pair of shoes. We lost all of the towels we had packed, and we also lost several items of clothing and books. In the end, we took 8 large suitcases weighing only 50lbs.

After the suitcase fiasco, the rest of the day went smoothly. We arrived in Lima, Peru at 9:30 PM. Our flight to Arequipa left at 3:50 AM. We sat in the Lima airport for 6 hours. By the time we reached Arequipa, (5:10 AM) we were so tired, we could barely keep our eyes open. But when we stepped off the plane into the night air, we were wide awake. The temperature was about 45 degrees. It was pretty cold!

We claimed all of our luggage (praise the Lord) and got a taxi to Robert & Sarah Stover's house. We got into bed at about 5:45 AM and slept until about 9:30. We're still tired, but we made it!!!

Our next step is to find a house to rent and settle in so we can start language school.

Since deputation is over, this is my final post on this blog. I invite you to read our new blog at http://holmesinsouthamerica.blogspot.com/.

Thanks to everyone who prayed and supported us as we traveled on deputation. We couldn't have done this without you. We love you all!!
