After leaving North Carolina, we drove to Glenolden, Pennsylvania for a meeting on Sunday, June 29th. The church was in an old rock building. It was beautiful. Rodney gave his testimony Sunday morning and taught Sunday school. We showed our slide show Sunday night. It was a good meeting. The pastor told Rodney that the church would vote to take us on for support at the next business meeting.
Glenolden, PA is about 15 minutes outside of Philadelphia, PA. We drove over and saw the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. We also saw the "Rocky" statue. I'll post a picture later.
Our Wednesday night, July 2nd meeting cancelled. We called around and got a replacement meeting for Wednesday, and an extra meeting for Thursday. The catch was that the meetings were in New York--2 hours away. Wedenesday night, we were in a church in Elmont, NY. There were many immigrants attending this church. It was pretty neat to see the mix of people. They were very friendly and interested in our ministry.
On Thursday night, July 3rd, we attended a church in Brooklyn, NY. This church wast started by a Macedonia World Baptist Missions missionary from Washington state. They had their midweek service in his home. The service was really sweet. The missionary had his people participate in the service. As in the church in Elmont, there was a wide variety of nationalities. It was a real blessing to hear the people pray. Being in this service made me think of what it will be like when we start a church in Venezuela--possibly meeting in our home, hearing people pray in their language, etc. It was a real encouragement to us.
While in New York, we decided to try to see the Statue of Liberty. We saw her at a distance during the day, but because we were only there for the two days, we decided to ride the (free) Stanton Island Ferry at night. It was much less crowded after the church service. Josie said it best "She's beautiful!"
Driving in New York City is as crazy as it looks on TV. I never want to have to do that again, and I was not driving. My whole right side, leg & hip, were sore the next day. We think it was because of all of my mashing the brakes in the passenger seat!! I was so nervous and uptight that after we got out of the city, I cried. I can't explain it. I just know that New York is not a place that I want to visit again.
After leaving New York, we had to drive to Jackson, PA for a meeting on Sunday, July 6th.
