$$$ Outrageous Shipping Costs $$$

As we begin to make preparations to leave for language school, I am astounded at the cost of things...especially shipping.

I was talking with A Beka Academy (suppliers of our homeschool materials) yesterday. I knew the cost of the curriculum for Katie & Josie would be about $700 more than last year because we would be in Peru. We have to purchase the DVDs instead of lease them. What I did not count on was the high cost of shipping the books to Peru. Yesterday, I was quoted $700 for shipping Katie's books, and $600 for shipping Josie's books. When I heard that, I almost choked! I thought it might cost $100-$200 total. Boy was I mistaken!!!

Instead of having them shipped, we will probably take them down ourselves when we go. It looks like it will be cheaper to pay for extra luggage than to pay for shipping. It is going to be an interesting trek through the airport that day!
